GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Police in Greensboro say the driver responsible for striking and killing a pedestrian on I-40 in June is facing new charges.
Last week, police charged Thomas Robert Emerson Sr. with DWI and felony Death by Motor Vehicle. They say Emerson killed Raeshawn Lamont Perry on June 19 while Perry was walking along I-40 E near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Police initially charged Emerson with misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle along with Careless and Reckless Driving. However, police filed the new charges after the results of Emerson's toxicology report showed he was not sober.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit is still investigating this incident.
