Sergio Garcia Wins 2012 Wyndham Championship
Greensboro, NC -- Sergio Garcia won the 2012 Wyndham Championship, his first tour title since 2008.
Garcia closed with a 66 to finish 18 under par.
Sergio Garcia poured in four birdies in a 5- hole span on Monday to pull away and win the Wyndham Championship.
The Spaniard finished his eighth PGA Tour win at 18-under-par 262.
With the win, Garcia all but secured a spot on the 2012 European Ryder Cup team.
Tim Clark birdied the last to close a round of 3-under 67. He took second at minus-16.
Bud Cauley posted a 2-under 68 to end alone in third at 15-under-par 265.
Chad Campbell closed with a 4-under 66 to share fourth place at 14-under-par 266. He was joined there by 2008 champion Carl Pettersson (68) and Jimmy Walker (67), the first- and second-round leaders.
Jason Dufner (69), Nicolas Colsaerts (66) and Bill Haas (67) shared seventh at 13-under-par 267.
The other big fight this week was trying to get inside the top 125 on the FedExCup points list to make the playoffs, which start on Thursday.
Heath Slocum is the only player that moved into the top 125 and earned a spot in the playoffs. He bumped Jhonattan Vegas from the playoffs. Vegas started the week 124th on the points list, but missed the cut and dipped to No. 126.
