High Point, NC - Homeowner Patti Kuhl says workers for A Cut Above Tree & Stump Removal seemed as professional as their flyer.
"To tell the truth he was wearing a Christian t-shirt, and I thought he must be a nice man, he's wearing the t-shirt. Obviously looks can fool," she said.
Kuhl paid A Cut Above about $250 dollars to trim a tree and paint the shutters. The tree is trimmed, but the shutters weren't touched three months later. Business owner Tommy Sexton promised he'd be back. And Kuhl has called and called. Sexton's number was disconnected.
"I thought I have been scammed," Kuhl said.
2 Wants To Know tried the phone number too. It didn't work. We did a few record searches and found an apartment address in Thomasville. When we got there, it was a burned down house, and neighbors say there's never been an apartment, and they don't know Tommy.
"Just find out about the company before you hire them," Kuhl said.
A quick online search shows the business has an F rating with the BBB. Customers have filed six complaints --- five unanswered --- for delivery issues and problems with product.
"It was a learning lesson," Kuhl said.
She'll hire someone else to paint her shutters, but only after she checks them out first. And next time, she won't pay all the money upfront - a lesson we could all learn from.
