Greensboro, NC -- The cooler air that started off the week has helped some of the leaves begin to change in more areas. The color has become a little more widespread across the Appalachian Mountain chain in western Virginia, West Virginia and western Maryland.
There still hasn't been many reports of much color change in western North Carolina aside for some of the higher elevations.
I would expect that the mountains in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina will soon cross into the low-medium range soon.
As the daylight continues to lessen and with cooler temperatures on
the way over the next week an increase in color coverage and intensity
is inevitable.
The typical fall color peak in the mountains is during late
September, but due to a warmer than average summer the peak may be
slightly delayed. Typical peak color in the Piedmont Triad is not until
the end of October.
