Wentworth, NC-- Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputies are still searching for a man in relation to a kidnapping and assault.

Deputies say Jason Levert Johns, 24, forcibly held his wife against her will and assaulted her. Her injuries included bruises to her face, arms and chest and an eye injury. Investigators said the victim also had a bite mark.

The assault happened when the two were traveling together on the morning of May 29. For whatever reason, Johns began beating her, according to detectives.  At one point, the wife was able to  get away from Johns, who ran after her, tackled her and began kicking her in the stomach.

After forcing his wife back into the car, Johns returned to their home and left the area after Mitchell's sons confronted him.

Johns' charges: First-Degree Kidnapping and Felonious Assault Inflicting Serious Injury, but is not in custody.

Johns has the letters "SP" tattooed on his forehead between his eyebrows. He was last seen driving a burgundy 2002 Crown Victoria with tinted windows and damage to the front right passenger side.
