Johnson City, TN-- Police say a TV weatherman in Tennessee had to run for his life after a man broke into his home and tried to kill him.
The break-in and attack happened early Monday morning at the home of Rob Williams a Meteorologist for CBS station WJHL. The police report states that Williams was injured by a bolt from a crossbow during a break-in.
According to the police report, the Johnson City Police Department said they were dispatched to the house at 4:07 a.m. on an assault. Officers said Williams told them that he knew the man who broke into his home.
Williams said the man entered his house through a window and then shot him with a crossbow. He also told police the man shot at him with a pistol, but missed when he was running from the house.
Gerald D. Taylor, 53 was identified as the suspect. Police searched the area and found Taylor on a boat dock near the house.
According to police, Taylor had a pistol in his hand and after a brief stand-off he was tased by officers and arrested.
WJHL reports that Williams had taken out an order of protection against Taylor just weeks ago. Taylor was previously staying at the house on Ashworth Court, but had been at a hotel since the order of protection was served on May 29.
Police charged Taylor with Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Burglary, and Violation of an Order of Protection.
The television station aired a statement from Willliams to viewers on the incident on Monday.
