Rock Hill, SC--  A male inmate who was put inside the same cell with a female inmate is now charged with sexual assault.

The assault allegedly happened after a Rock Hill man was placed in the cell with a female inmate while crews clean the man's holding cell.

According to a York County Sheriff's Office report, 33-year-old James Henry Richardson is accused of inappropriately touching the 33-year-old woman.

Deputies say it happened at the Moss Justice Center on Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The report states that Richardson was placed in the holding cell while inmate workers cleaned his jail cell.

The woman told detention officers that Richardson touched her on her breast, buttocks and genital area while she was reportedly sleeping.

According to the report, investigators performed a sexual assault test on the victim and took a DNA swab from Richardson's mouth.

Richardson was charged with assault and battery, second degree, on Saturday night around 10:50 p.m.

Officers gave no explanation why the man was place in that particular cell or where were the guards.
