Fort Myers, FL-- While investigating a shooting Police said they found a 3-year-old girl in a car with the bodies of two gunshot victims.
Officers in Fort Myers, FL told the media that the child was unharmed. Police said the girl was asleep in the backseat with the bodies of Jerrett Byrd, 23, and Chariah Owens, 16, inside the car around 4 a.m. Tuesday..
The bodies had multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. The child is Owen's cousin, police said.
Police are now investigating what prompted the shooting and why the child was with the victims. Authorities are combing the crime scene for clues and have moved the car to a secure location.
The child was taken to the hospital and later released to the custody of state child welfare officials. Police said they contacted her parents.
