Police: Cleaning Woman Stole Money, Jewelry

Burlington, NC -- On 09/07/2012, the Burlington Police Department received a report of a theft of money from a resident. During the initial report, the victim suspected someone they hired to clean their residence. As the investigation continued, Investigators identified 7 additional victims who suffered a loss of money or jewelry from January of 2010 to present date. All of these victims employed the same person to clean their homes.

As a result, officers identified Tammy Caviness Gilley, 54, as the one hired by each victim for cleaning services. On 09/11/2012, Burlington investigators executed a search warrant, where items reported stolen by victims was recovered. Arrest warrants were obtained on Gilley for the following crimes:

8 counts of Larceny by Employee (7cts Burlington PD, 1 Ct Alamance County Sheriff's Dept)
3 counts of possession of stolen property
4 counts of obtaining property by false pretense

Gilley was arrested on 09/13/2012 where she received a $20,000.00 secured bond. The investigation is on-going and anyone who has information is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100.
