Wendell, NC -- A 15-year-old is dead and a gun owner is in jail after a gun accidentally went off Friday, according to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office.
Robert Furey was showing the boy, Nick Exley, a gun at his home around 9:30 p.m. when it went off and killed him.
Exley was a freshman at Corinth Holders High School, and he lived with his grandmother.
Authorities charged Furey with manslaughter, and he's being held in the Johnston County jail with no bond.
Furey has three prior convictions of driving while impaired, with the most recent being in October 2011.
There is still no information on the type of gun or where Exley was shot.
