Denton, NC-- Our local city leaders aren't waiting for help from Washington.

They're finding their own ways to bring in businesses and jobs.

It's hard enough in big cities like Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro.

You can imagine how easy it is for a small town like Denton to get lost in the mix.

Denton is in southern Davidson County with a populaion of 1,650 people.

So it's not a top pick for many businesses looking to expand.

The town isn't asking too much just 150 new jobs created over the next five years.

The plan includes incentives for new businesses.

But what may help a town the size of Denton reach that goal are the 80-100 businesses that are already here.

Mayor Scott Morris said that's why there's money for them, too.

"We'd love to have 100 jobs at one time, but we feel this is going to be two and three jobs each time. It's going to be small increments, but it's going to add up to 150 we hope," said Morris.

It might not steal a company away from bigger Triad cities - - but the hope is it will keep more people from driving out of town for work.

Who qualifies for incentives & what's on the table from town leaders:
