Triad, NC--  You've heard about people getting discounted facials at a spa or a great deal from a restaurant on several daily deal websites. But how about a routine dental cleaning, flu shot, or chiropractic exam?

People are doing it. Carole Goldschmidt, who uses many daily deal sites says, "I think healthcare cost has gotten way out of reach for so many people and I think that's a fabulous idea."

"If it's free or if it's a deal on something and you need it, I think that's great", adds Kacie Yarnell.

News 2 found local dentists who have partnered with Groupon and our Gannett partner, DealChicken to offer deep discounts on things like dental exams. One local deal from November on DealChicken offered a comprehensive dental exam that would usually cost $176 for $39. DealChicken sold nine of those coupons.

DealChicken Area Manager Wendy Gatlin explains that this is a growing trend among physicians. "With dentists especially now, with the economy and people not having insurance, getting a good deal is priceless right now", says Gatlin.

With any online purchases, there are some risks involved. Gatlin offered tips to make sure you're getting a good and credible deal.

First, you want to research the provider by taking advantage of consumer review websites such as Yelp.com.

Be sure to go right to the source by checking out the merchant's website, Facebook page, and Twitter account. Don't be afraid to call the business and ask questions about the deal and their menu of services.

One red flag when ordering an online service is if the company does not have a website.

More times than not, daily deal sites provide links and information to the business right one the coupon making them easy to research.
