Triad --  It's always nice to get roses delivered from the florist for Valentine's Day.  It isn't quite as nice a week or two later when the trash man takes them away.  This year, how about mixing it up a little?  If your sweetie likes to garden, consider giving her a flower she can plant.  Better yet, plant it for her!

It's February so when you go to a nursery, you'll see a lot more green things than blooming ones.  It is winter after all.  However, according to Cissy Apple, Owner and Vice President of A&A Plants, many times plant growers will use warm greenhouses to make plants bloom out of season.  You can give one to your main squeeze to brighten up the house for now.  Then you can plant it outside to enjoy... forever.

Apple says after they are established outside, they will get back on a normal schedule and continue blooming when nature tells them to.

Some plants you might look for are Cyclamen, Gerber Daisies, Streptocarpella, Amaryllis and Begonias.  Rose bushes are also a really good choice.  Or go to your local nursery and see what they have available.  Then ask for planting tips- like when is the best time to plant them outside.
