Scouts all over the Piedmont braved some less than ideal wintry weather Saturday, February 11 to pick up donations of food.
The scouts left Lowes Foods/Scouting for Food bags at area homes Saturday, February 4, and most returned to pick up the bags filled with non-perishable food the following Saturday.
WFMY News 2, through its annual Food 2 Families campaign, works with the scouts to promote Scouting for Food.
The Old North State Council, generally including scouts east of Winston-Salem, says it collected 88,742 pounds of food.
The Old Hickory Council, generally including scouts in the areas between Boone and Winston-Salem, says it has collected 48,129 pounds of food so far. The more severe winter weather in the western counties has delayed the scouts in picking up food donations in those areas.
People who live in the areas between Boone and Winston-Salem may drop off their Scouting for Food donations at any Lowes Foods store or wait for the scouts in their area to go door-to-door. You may also call the Old Hickory Council for more information at 1-888-760-2035.
If you'd like to contact the Old North State Council, which generally serves the areas east of Winston-Salem, you may call 1-800-367-9166.
Many thanks to Lowes Foods which provides the thousands of plastic grocery bags that are critical to the success of the community-wide project.
All the food you donate goes to local food banks and pantries to help many local families in need put food on the table.
Thank you for helping get Food 2 Families by supporting Scouting for Food!
