Greensboro, NC -- Whenever we do a lottery, budget or tax-related story, many of you ask about the impact of the North Carolina Education Lottery.

The lottery gives millions of dollars to school systems each year.  But, we want to put that in perspective.

Last year, the Guilford County school system received more than $22 million from the lottery.  The district's budget for this year is more than $659 million.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools got $14 million in lottery money.  Their budget this year is more than $556 million.

Randolph County schools got about $6 million last year.  Their budget is more than $151 million.

Rockingham County schools got a little less than $4 million, and their budget is about $126 million.

And, Alamance County schools got about $6.5 million, and their budget is about $204 million.

For 2012, lottery money will be split five ways:  Teachers' salaries, school construction, pre-k, need-based college scholarships and UNC need-based financial aid.
