Asheboro, NC -- Family, friends and community members competed in a Bowl-A-Thon that was held on Saturday in honor of an Asheboro woman in need of a double lung transplant.
Patti Benedict, who is on the waiting list for the transplant at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as an infant.
Patti's diagnosis has not set her back, as she continues to work at Christian United Outreach Center in Greensboro, helping and inspiring others.
At Saturday's Bowl-A-Thon, over 200 bowlers were in attendance and over $10,000 was raised toward Patti's transplant expenses!
Sofar, the Benedicts' have raised over $60,000, which is 60% of their $100,000 goal; an approximate cost of the transplant and transplant-related expenses.
The event was even more meaningful for Patti because two of her brothers were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth. They died as infants.
The event was sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden.
