Greensboro, NC-- Some Greensboro students spent their Spring Break in Cuba and some were in the nation's capital.

New Garden Friends School Middle and Upper School students, teachers and parents traveled to Cuba to assist the Quaker Church in Holguin with their building project. Besides taking some tools (such as the tile cutter & replacement wheels, several metal & masonry drill bits, donated electrical supplies and the 5 laptops, donated by Greensboro Montessori School), they also donated $1500 to the building project.

Students participated in youth activities at the church, including Middle School students helping to act in a movie and Upper Division students created a pantomime to share about acceptance of differences. They also helped with the various Sunday school groups and the older students had very interesting discussion with their Cuban counterparts.

All said the highlights of the trip were visits to Cuban homes as well as the opportunity to experience the Cuban culture while immersing in speaking Spanish.

Other students from the New Garden Friends School Upper Division traveled to DC over Spring Break with history techer, Pete Kalajan. As Pete describes, "The trip was amazing.
We saw just about every national monument and memorial, but I think the highlight for most was the US Capitol tour and meeting Howard Coble and Kay Hagan!!

The visit to the Holocaust Museum and Arlington Cemetery marked the beginning and the end of the journey and really sparked some thoughtful reflection for the students.
