Greensboro -- If someone came up to you while you were getting in your car at night, would you know what to do? After police say two different robberies on Wednesday morning were connected, WFMY News 2 spoke to Master Cpl. Dee Jackson of the Guilford County Sheriff's Department to find out how you can defend yourself in different situations.
Scenario: If someone comes up to you when you're in your car and they have a weapon
Cpl. Jackson: The most important thing to remember: be compliant. The goal is to come out alive. Nothing you own is worth the risk of your life. Your purse and your wallet can be replaced; you can not be replaced.
Scenario: If someone comes up to you when you're in your car and you don't have a weapon
Cpl. Jackson: The greatest weapon you have is your car. Drive forward or reverse to get away from the person.
Scenario: Walking to your car alone at night
Cpl. Jackson: It is important to be hyper-vigilant. Look over your shoulder and know what is happening around you. Don't have anything in your hands, but your keys.
