The chair of the American Red Cross helped give out awards and even accepted one of her own.
Greensboro, NC -- Bonnie McElveen-Hunter served as the keynote speaker at the inaugural Triad Salute to Heroes Event.
McEleveen-Hunter is the chairman of the American Red Cross. While she was has a home in the Triad, she was in the area to serve as the keynote speaker for the awards event. But she was surprised to be called on stage to accept a heroes award of her own. After the shock wore off, McElveen-Hunter said, "Those individuals who they're, they're our firefighters, our policemen, our first responders who really make our community a better place to live but also a safer place to live."
Tuesday, McElveen-Hunter will fly to Los Angeles to receive a national award for philanthropy for Women's Leadership on giving on behalf of the Greensboro Chapter of the United Way for the Tocqueville society, as Greensboro led the way in creating a new path for fundraising and philanthropic efforts.
