High Five on the 4th

Let's Break a World Record - High Five on the 4th
Entry Form
Basic Information

When: July 4th, 2012 – 11:00 AM

Where: Downtown Greensboro at Festival Park (next to the Cultural Arts Building on Davie Street – behind the library)

Who: Everyone who is physically able to do a high five

Why: To put YOU and Greensboro in the Guinness Book of World Records

How it will go down

Logistics: Starting at 8:00AM on Wednesday, July 4th, the entire Festival Park (directly across Davie Street from Center City Park) will be blocked off for the High 5 event. There will be four entrances where participants can access the performance area and the gates will open at 9:00 AM. We encourage participants to arrive as early as possible to ensure everyone gets in before 11:00 AM. 98.7 Simon will be providing the tunes as we gear up for the event.

As participants arrive they will be told where to go and given instructions on what is required to make this record attempt count. If a participant needs to leave the performance area before the attempt, he/she MUST exit through one of the four entrances in order for us to keep an accurate tally. Restrooms and water will be provided to participants in the performance area.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen and a hat. It can get pretty darned hot in July around here! Stay hydrated and stay cool.

At 11:00 AM, we will announce to the crowd that the attempt is about to begin and we will do a countdown to the moment of truth. We will only get one chance to do the official record breaking attempt so pay close attention!

Volunteer Information

We are looking for volunteers to act as official observers of the record attempt. The Guinness World Records folks are very particular about what it takes to make a record official and they require us to have one observer for every 50 participants. We're setting our sights on 4,000 participants so we'll need 80 observers. Each observer is expected to watch the participants surrounding him/her and report any incorrect attempts at performing the High 5.

If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the registration form and click on the "volunteer" option.

History of the High Five

The existing record for the most people performing a high five simultaneously is 3,504 and was achieved by Zappos.com (USA) at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on 5 March 2012.
