Haw River, NC -- The concoction of ingredients in Dogwood Hill Tomato Salsa came about thanks in part to leftovers... and a layoff.

"We were growing seasonal vegetables and you have to do something with the ones you don't sell at the farmers market," said Mushrooms-N-More President Eric Dunlap.

So Dunlap and his wife did the next best thing: "We started making tomato salsa."

We can't give away all of the company's secrets, but there's a dash of this, a dash of that, some tomatoes, onions and some fresh cilantro.

The company now sells its salsa in 35 to 40 stores across North Carolina.
