Kentucky Fried Chicken's free offer for their new grilled meal started a feeding frenzy. People are waiting hours in line to take advantage of the offer. It's available to everyone for free as long as they came with a coupon.
You might think it sounds like a huge money loss for KFC, but Pete Parsells, a partner of Bouvier Kelly advertising, said this could be a money maker, "Great idea to get people into KFC to try something new. And it's going outside their core type of product, which is fried, most fried food. So people who don't step into KFC might be interested in grilled chicken, but they're not going to go to KFC. By giving it free, you might get people to try it. Get people into the store who normally would not go to the store."
Parsells said it doesn't really matter what the product is. If you say "free", you catch some attention. "Today in tough economic times, it says that maybe that brand cares a little bit. Denny's for instance, they didn't give away a new product," said Parsells. He's talking about Denny's free grand slam breakfast a few days after their 2009 Super Bowl ad.
Most KFC's are not longer honoring the coupons at this time. They have offered rainchecks for people that weren't able to use the coupons. Click here for more details.
