Raleigh, NC -- You may not be able to find a cheap and legal high in North Carolina anymore.

State lawmakers passed a ban on synthetic marijuana and certain bath salts. All that's needed is Gov. Bev Perdue's signature.

K-2 or "spice" was sold over the counter and mimicked real marijuana. The new law now treats them both the same and traffickers can get up to 23 years in prison.

The state's newest controlled substance is MDPV, a bath salt ingredient. When snorted, it can cause hallucinations and paranoia. Trafficking MDPV carries a maximum sentence of 18 years.
