Greensboro-- After playing basketball, women's football and running track, Darina "Dee" Mims has found a new love -- boxing.

The postal clerk is only in her first year of boxing full-time -- and has set the bar fairly high. In June, she fights to compete in the Olympic Trials to become a member of the first U.S. female boxing team.

Mims training counters with her busy schedule at the Post Office where she works an early morning schedule. She still manages to train three and a half hours a day, 4-5 times a week. Her workouts consist of running, strength training, and of course sparring.

If selected, Mims will be one of four women to represent the United States Women's Boxing team at the 2012 Olympics.

Wednesday, May 18 there will be a spaghetti dinner and bake sale to raise money for Mims Olympic trial. Its from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm at the Lindley Rec Center and Boxing Club (2907 Springwood Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403). It's free, but they're requesting donations of $6. For more information, call (336) 373-2930 or (336) 373-2931.
