Greensboro, NC --  The Fun Fourth Festival almost got through the day without any glitches. That's until mother nature started her own show.

The stormy weather cancelled the Pops Concert scheduled for 7:30pm at the White Oak Amphitheatre.

Tailgaters arrived at the parking lots at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex at 5:30pm. They came armed with grills, tents, chairs, and games. The weather caused some people to run for cover in their cars and hold their tents down from blowing away in the wind.

After it passed, people were back out in action.

"Just the atmosphere itself, just being in the parking lot, it's just a wonderful thing itself just to come out and grill out because downtown, we didn't do a lot of that, so this is nice that we get to come out and tailgate," said Jonas Williams. "I think it's wonderful. My family, they love it. We're waiting on next year. It's going to be bigger and better next year."

Later in the night, the skies lit up with fireworks as planned.

This was the third event the White Oak Amphitheatre hosted since it opened in June. Andrew Brown, Public Relations Manager for the Coliseum Complex, said  "It's still a work in progress a little bit. We're still doing some more landscaping and some more minor things, but for this first season what you see here now is pretty close."

No other cities or towns in the Triad cancelled any scheduled fireworks.

In the Triangle, Raleigh, Durham and Cary all cancelled their concerts from the storm that continued east, after moving past the Triad.

Although it was hot, the Fun Fourth Festival in downtown Greensboro went smoothly and loudly.

That's thanks to the WFMY News 2 5 minute drum roll in an attempt to "Snare the World Record."

The event started with the annual parade.
