Greensboro, NC -- Over 75 runners participated in the First Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge presented by High Point University's Kappa Delta Sorority.

Almost $3,000 was raised to help support Kappa Delta's National Philanthropy Prevent Child Abuse America, as well as local non-profit Family Service of the Piedmont.

Family Service of the Piedmont has two Children's Advocacy Centers which coordinate the investigation of child sexual abuse.

An issue which has gained much national coverage in past weeks is an issue that some may not realize is a problem which plagues our own community.

In 2010, over 5,100 cases of child abuse were reported in North Carolina. 70% of those cases involved sexual abuse.

In the first six month's of this year, Family Service's two Children's Advocacy Centers investigated 128 cases involving sexual victimization of a child. These children didn't choose to be abused but we as a community can choose to help by supporting services such as the Children's Advocacy Center which helps children move past these tramatic experiences.

The Krispy Kreme Challenge originated at NC State University in Raleigh back in December of 2004.
