Greensboro, NC -- A Greensboro woman is in trouble with the law again for performing "cosmetic enhancement procedures" without a medical license.
The Guilford County Sheriff's Department began an investigation on Lauretta Michelle Cheek after a complaint was filed against her in 2010. The person that filed the complaint said a friend drove her from Charlotte to get an injection in her buttocks.
Detective Craig Cotten said the woman started having complications days after she was injected with an unknown liquid or gel. Cotton said the woman made two trips to the emergency room in Charlotte. She filed a complaint with the health department who then informed the sheriff's office.
Investigators said this particular incident happened in a motel room in the former Motel 6, now the Scottish Inn in Greensboro. Cotton said the complainant paid $500 for the injection.
The woman told detectives she learned about Cheek through word of mouth from her job as an exotic dancer.
Check is charged with one count of Practicing Medicine without a License, a misdemeanors.
In 2008, Cheek was charged with Practicing Medicine Without a License and Obtaining Controlled Substance by Fraud/Forgery.
At that time, Cheek ran a business called AltMED that provided lipo-dissolve injections designed to reduce fat. The charges in 2008 stemmed from accusations that she was injecting women with drugs that reportedly caused kidney failure.
She is currently on probation on those charges.
