Raleigh, NC -- The NC DOT awarded contracts for two major Triad projects.
A 50.7 million contract has been awarded to W.C. English Inc. of Lynchburg to widen U.S. 29 Business/Freeway Drive in Rockingham County. The road will be widened between South Scales Street and NC 14.
The six-mile stretch of road will be widened from two lanes to four lanes with a median. DOT officials said the project is designed to enhance "safety and mobility in the area."
Work should begin in late February and be completed by November 1.
The DOT also awarded a $2.2 million project to Lanford Brothers Company of Roanoke to resurface bridges along Wendover Avenue.
The bridge decks scheduled for resurfacing include:
• The bridge across Holden Road;
• The bridge across West Market Street;
• The bridge across Friendly Avenue;
• The bridge across the Southern Railroad;
• The bridge across Elm Street; and
• The bridge across North Buffalo Creek.
Work on that project is expected to begin around March 1, with completion in mid-November.
