I-26 Is Closed Near East Flat Rock After Truck Wreck

EAST FLAT ROCK - Interstate 26 remains closed in both directions Wednesday in Henderson County after a tanker truck carrying sulfuric acid crashed Tuesday night.

The wreck happened at about 10 p.m. near the Peter Guice Memorial Bridge. Nearby residents were evacuated after the accident, but the evacuation has been lifted and residents are allowed to return to their homes.

The truck driver was transported to Mission Hospital, but no one else was injured.

Road crews are still working to clean the spill and repair the damaged roadway.

The interstate is closed at mile marker 54 near East Flat Rock.
Motorists should use the following detours: Westbound traffic will use exit 59 and proceed onto U.S. 176 West. Motorists with then take U.S. 25 North and back onto I-26 West at exit 54.
Eastbound motorists will get off at exit 54 onto U.S. 25 South and proceed into South Carolina. Motorists will then take S.C. Highway 11 East back onto I-26 East.
