Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith
has reportedly agreed to a contract extension.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Smith is expected to sign a four-year
deal on Tuesday. The new pact will help ease the club's salary cap issues.
Smith earned his sixth Pro Bowl selection in 2011 after catching 79 passes for
1,394 yards with seven touchdowns. He was coming off a 46-catch season in
2010.
The Utah product, who turns 33 years old in May, has 699 receptions for 10,278
yards with 59 touchdowns in an 11-year career spent entirely with Carolina.
He's recorded six 1,000-yard seasons, his best coming in 2005 with 103 catches
for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns.
