Cape Canaveral, FL -- The space shuttle Discovery prepared for its final journey on Saturday before its retirement to an annex of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
The shuttle was rolled out from NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center early on Saturday morning, and will be mounted atop a modified Boeing 747, ahead of its flight to Dulles Airport near Washington.
On Tuesday, April 17, between 10 and 11 am EDT space shuttle Discovery, mounted on the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, will fly over the Washington, DC area.
According to NASA, Discovery completed 39 missions, spent 365 days in space, orbited the Earth 5,830 times, and traveled 148,221,675 miles.
