Greensboro, N.C. -- You might say there was a tug of war going on in the courtroom Thursday between John Edwards' attorney and Andrew Young.

These two men went back and forth with each other all day. It was tense for much of the day.

Edwards' attorney accused Andrew Young of leaking information about the affair to the National Enquirer.

The question of where the money was going is key to this case.

Edwards' attorneys are trying to prove Young used the money for himself and his own needs, not simply to hide the affair.

They also suggested Young wanted to say he was the father of Rielle Hunter's baby because that would strengthen Young's connection to Edwards and allow him access to more money and resources.

Attorneys also questioned Young about the book he wrote and even asked him to read passages from it, all in an effort to catch Young in a lie.

Young acted confused or disoriented on the stand. For example, he has a stack of documents next to him from the defense that are in numerical order. However, Young keeps saying he can't find certain documents. Young also keeps asking the attorney to repeat questions. The most common response Young gives is, "I don't recall."

Young is trying to say as little as possible. He will be back on the stand again Friday.
