Caswell County, NC -- Warmer weather not only means sun and surf, you might want to remember to be on the look out for snakes.
14-year-old Brandon Gonzales was bitten in his own backyard in Caswell County.
He was just eight years old at the time.
Gonzales was playing with his older brother when he accidentally stepped into a copperhead nest.
"It was scary to me because I didn't know what was going to happen. So I ran back to the house," said Gonzales.
"I was just like Oh My God! And your first instinct is call 9-1-1," said the Eighth Grader's Mother Heidi Thrasher.
"Just the worry and anxiety and if they are going to live. To see it swell and turn black and blue was really hard."
Gonzales' story is one of many.
In the last 30 days, Moses Cone Hospital treated six people with snake bites, according to a spokesperson.
