Homeowner Uses Rake To Help Catch Suspects

Cleveland County, NC-- The sheriff's office in one NC county credits a homeowner armed with a yard rake for helping end a crime spree.

Deputies with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office told WBTV, a homeowner was greeted by suspects who broke into his house Sunday morning. Although, the victim wasn't able to stop the thieves the man's actions after being violated made all the difference in catching the suspects.

The homeowner used a rake to break out a window in the suspects their getaway car. Deputies spotted the car and stopped it in Shelby. Inside they found evidence taken during the crime.

Sheriff Alan Norman said victims were growing tired of having their front door kicked in and their personal belongings stolen.

Sheriff Norman said thanks to the actions of that homeowner, they arrested five people from Sunday's break-in.

They identified the suspects: Trask Hopper, Jordan Hosch, Hoza Rivera, Montardro Hopper and a juvenile. Each face multiple charges of Breaking and Entering and Possession of Stolen Goods.

Their bond ranges from half a million dollars to no bond.
