Yadkinville, NC-- Fifteen students had a scary school bus ride home, just days before the end of school this week.

Wednesday, NC Highway Patrol said the driver, Jody Gregory, was transporting 15 students after school when he had several incidents.

Trooper said Gregory drove off the side of Old Highway 421 and almost hit a sign and a tree. An eyewitness called and reported the driver's erratic driving.

The scariest part of all, Troopers say he left the scene of the accident with students still on board. None of the students were injured.

Dr. Stewart Hobbs with Yadkin County Schools tells WFMY News 2 that Gregory is no longer a driver with the school system. He said Gregory has been driving for them about four years and hasn't had any other complaints.

Dr. Hobbs said it was an unfortunate incident, they believe in student's safety first and are very thankful no one was hurt.

Troopers in the Yadkin County Patrol office said Gregory told them he had taken some medication that made him drowsy.

He was charged with DWI, Failure to Maintain Control and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Troopers are waiting on toxicology reports and the incident is an open investigation.
