NEW BERN, N.C. -- A prescribed burn in the Croatan National Forest is now an uncontained fire that's being fought by employees with the U.S. Forest Service.

Authorities said Sunday that about 2,800 acres have burned since Saturday afternoon. None of the fire in in the Sheep Ridge Wilderness area of the forest is contained.

The fire has not injured anyone or damaged any property. The fire wasn't threating any property Sunday.

The Forest Service conducted the prescribed burn Thursday through Saturday on about 2,000 acres along South Little Road near the center of the national forest.
