FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- One soldier is dead and two more are injured in a shooting that happened at Fort Bragg on Thursday afternoon.
According to Public Affairs Officer Col. Kevin Arata, the shooting happened during a unit safety briefing around 3:30 pm.
No names have been released yet.
Arata didn't say what might have caused the shooting, but he did say that a soldier from the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade shot another person from the same unit before shooting himself.
The shooter and another soldier were both injured.
"This is a tragedy for our community," said Arata. "We don't yet know the reasons for the shooting but are working with the unit and the affected families to help them through this difficult period."
Fort Bragg law enforcement and emergency responders secured the scene within minutes at the corner of Letterman and Armistead Streets.
Special Agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command are on the scene and have begun an investigation.
Notification of the next of kin is underway.
