Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro Police shut down I-40 from I-73 to Randelman Road around 3:30pm Monday.

News 2 learned the road was shut down for a "police incident."

Police were handling an attempted suicide and were able to successfully diffuse the situation.

According to Capt. John Wolfe with the Greensboro Police Department, a man threatened to jump off the Merritt Drive bridge that crosses over I-40. That bridge is located between the High Point Road and Patterson Street exits.

Capt. Wolfe said a negotiator was called in and was successful talking down the would-be "jumper."

The Interstate was re-opened to traffic about 30 minutes later.

In cases like this, Capt. Wolfe says, the subject is taken for a mental health evaluation.
