Candor, N.C. -- Wayne Holyfield appealed the State Highway Patrol's decision to fire him, but that initial appeal has been denied.
In a document obtained by WFMY News 2, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety outlines the reasons for dismissing Holyfield. According to the document, those reasons include:
* Unbecoming Conduct by allegedly having an extra-marital affair and having sex with the woman while on and off duty.
* Violation of Rules, to wit, by interfering with a DWI case and a traffic stop.
* Truthfulness: being untruthful in communication with the Assistant District Attorney and untruthful communication with internal affairs investigators.

Holyfield is also a former Candor Town Commissioner. He resigned after facing public scrutiny and pressure from his decision to fire four of the town's five police officers last year. In June, one month after Holyfield's resignation, three of the four fired officers got their jobs back.
Holyfield can appeal his dismissal again but since he was denied by the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, he can only appeal to the Personnel Commission.
