GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Power crews are restoring electricity to customers who lost service as storms moved across central North Carolina.

Duke Energy reported about 2,700 customers without service early this morning. The Greensboro area had about 1,700 customers without service. Charlotte had nearly 900 without service.

The storms Monday also brought flooding in the Greensboro area and forced officials to close some streets and the westbound lanes of Interstate 40.

Greensboro firefighters checked reports on several flooded cars and workers who were stranded by flood water at a manufacturing plant for a time.

The Greensboro area got nearly 3 inches of rain in less than two hours.

Some flights were also diverted from Piedmont Triad airport.
Trees were also reported down in the Charlotte area.
There was an 70 percent chance of storms Tuesday.
