Greensboro, NC-- While current Shipman Family Home Care employees are uncertain about the future, the clients they serve are also uneasy about what will happen to them.
News 2 talked to Liz Moore, a former client at Shipman Family Home Care. Just this week she switched agencies to Champion Family Healthcare Services out of Winston-Salem. She followed her aide, Stephanie Horton of six years.
Once Horton didn't receive her paycheck, she quickly found work with a different agency. Liz Moore and Horton's other clients switched along with her.
Liz saw what was going on with Shipman Family Home Care on the news.
"I was just totally shocked. I really didn't...it came so sudden, I just didn't believe what I was hearing or seeing," said Liz.
For Liz Moore, it was a matter of life and death. She has a rare life threatening blood disorder. The disease requires her to get blood transfusions sometimes once a month. Moore relies on her aide, Stephanie to do all kinds of things around her home. From house work to chores, even helping Liz in and out of the bathtub is all part of her responsibilities.
Liz, has become reliant and especially close to Stephanie. For her, it's more about her trust in her aide than the agency itself.
"If one things not working, then it's going to start a chain reaction. Whatever's going on with her effects her aide, whatever effects the aide, effects me," said Liz.
Still, Liz feels for the patients in worse condition than her.
"I'm in the bed but I'm not in there all the time. Think of the people that are worse off that have that aide, how bad it would be," said Liz.
Liz Moore thinks there are probably many clients out there who feel scared for their futures.
One of those clients is Denise Barnes. Barnes, a Shipman client is currently in Cone Hospital after an asthma attack.
Unlike Liz, Denise hasn't had the close relationships with her aides. Instead, she says she's gone through a few Shipman aides.
Now, she told News 2, she's concerned about her future. One thing she's sure of, she's done with Shipman Family Home Care.
" As soon as I get out of here, I'm having someone else with another service because I can't work with someone if I don't know if you're going to come or not, you know I need, I need help," said Barnes.
