Winston-Salem, NC -- Winston-Salem police declared a deadly shooting as an act of self-defense.
Police say that on July 14, Anthony McArthur bought marijuana from James Samuels. A little after 6 o'clock Saturday, McArthur went to 1141 Motor Road to confront Samuels because he was unhappy with the quality of the marijuana.
McArthur got out of his car, armed with a sword, and began to assault Samuels. McArthur then held the sword above Samuels, as preparing to strike him. That's when Samuels fired a shot from a handgun. Samuels then called 911.
During the investigation, authorities found out that Samuels is a convicted felon and is prohibited to possess a weapon.

The Forsyth County District Attorney reviewed the findings of the investigation and determined that the shooting was in self-defense, in that McArthur confronted Samuels with deadly force prior to the shooting.
Police charged Samuels with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and the sell and delivery of marijuana. He's at the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond. A court date is scheduled for August 2.
