Winston-Salem, NC-- A highway ramp has reopened after a morning semi mishap closed it for eight hours.
Around 5:51am Friday Winston-Salem Police Officers responded to a report of a disabled tractor- trailer on the on-ramp from Highway 52 southbound to southbound US-421.
The driver told Officers said the semi's trailer collapsed and split in half, causing the the rear tires to come off the ground and immobilized the vehicle.
Victor Manuel Gonzalez immediately notified responding emergency workers that he was transporting a potentially hazardous corrosive material. Police located the vehicle, owned by Averitt Express Trucking, near the top of the ramp to Highway 421.
The Winston-Salem Fire Department's hazmat team responded to the scene to investigate and determined there was no immediate threat to the surrounding area. All materials on the damaged truck had to be loaded onto another trailer.
