Raleigh, NC -- A Surry County man is $1 million richer after winning the Mega Millions drawing July 20.
Frank Castillo, a seafood salesman from Surry County, said he'd always played the lottery in North Carolina and Virginia for years and thought he'd eventually win it.
"I've always been a hard-working man, and I've only played the lottery in moderation," Castillo said. "I kept playing because I had faith, and now the day has finally come. I'm pinching myself."
Castillo bought the winning ticket at the Jonestown Road Family Fare in Winston-Salem.
He thought he'd only won $250,000, but when he brought the ticket to the clerk, he found out his $2.00 Megaplier ticket multiplied his winnings to $1 million.
"When he said $1 million, I almost fainted," said Castillo. "I felt my knees getting weaker. I caught myself on the counter."
Castillo plans to use the money, $680,000 after taxes, to pay off his mortgage and auto loans, start college funds for his children and start a business.
