Fort McCoy, FL-- Officers hear a lot of creative excuses from people hoping to avoid speeding tickets, but they probably hadn't heard the one they got Saturday.
A Fort McCoy, FL woman who didn't stop for an officer who clocked her speeding said it was because...she was topless!
Mandy Ramsey, 35 was arrested Saturday on charges of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude. On an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS station WKMG, Ramsey's occupation was listed as a Teacher Assistant in Marion County.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, a deputy on routine patrol witnessed a pickup driving at least 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on Highway 315 and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The pickup, however, ran a stop sign, clipped a tree and turned into a residence, and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, an arrest report said.
The pickup was located by a sheriff's helicopter, and the owner of the vehicle, James Woodward, told deputies that he had not been driving in the past two hours, according to the report.
Woodward's girlfriend, identified as Ramsey, told deputies that she was driving the pickup and did not pull over because she was topless, the sheriff's report said.
"She did something stupid trying to impress me," Woodward said.
Marion County Schools spokesman Kevin Christian said Ramsey is a new hire and her first day with the district is scheduled to take place later this month. Her employment status has not yet been determined, Christian said.
Ramsey was booked for fleeing and eluding law enforcement and released on $5,000 bond.
