Greensboro, NC - Family and friends filled the terminal at the Piedmont Triad International Airport as Army Staff Sergeant James Medina returned home after his deployment to Afghanistan.

"I was like wow, this is pretty awesome and I tried to maintain my smile to the minimal, it just blew my mind," Medina said.

Sgt. Medina is on leave for the next 15 days. He plans on celebrating his tenth anniversary with his family, not taking 3 minute showers and eating some pizza.

His wife Brooke said, "He's back, relief and just joy, so happy to just see him in the flesh again, and it just feels good to be next to each other.

Earlier in the day, the family was busy making signs filled with red, white, and blue and big block letters that say welcome home.

Brooke said, "It's lonesome sometimes when you know your spouse is on the other side of the world and they are in a dangerous area. I have had just a peace from GOD, he has given me peace about it." She went on to add, "I am very excited, just really joyful that GOD has brought him home. To lay hands on him and have the kids with us and just all be a family again is gonna be great."
