High Point, NC - A day after announcing Paul Ryan as his vice presidential candidate, Gov. Mitt Romney made his first campaign trip to the Triad on Sunday.

The newly stamped GOP ticket campaigned in High Point as part of the "Romney Plan for a Stronger Middle Class" bus tour.

The presumptive Republican presidential candidate and his VP choice were welcomed in High Point's Absolute Style Furniture by supporters who waited for hours to hear the pair speak.

"It's just amazing to see how many came out, and care and it's a great time," said Stephany Blair, a campaign volutneer and a would-be first-time voter this November.

The Romney campain estimates about 10,000 people attended the event, even though only a few hundreds fit into the furniture store. The rest hung outside in an overflow area.

"This is day two on our pathway to reclaim America's promise and we're going to do it," Governor Romney said to the crowd. "We're going to do something that people have talked about but haven't been willing to do: and that is we're finally going to cut federal spending, cut the deficit and get us to a balanced budget."

Even though he's barely two days into the campaign, Ryan wasted no time letting supporters know he's ready for the fight.

"President Obama came into office, with hope and change, his policies have been put in place they are not working. They are failing us," Ryan said.

Supporters who spoke with News 2 after the event say they are happy about the campaign selecting Ryan to be part of the ticket.

Some said the event helped energized them about what's at stake in this year's election.

"It's hot, but like he said "it's hot with enthusiasm," said Carson Norcross, refressing the hot and muggy event room.
