Greensboro, NC -- The Triad could be becoming a hub for rising soccer stars!
First, we brought you the story of Greensboro's national champion u-16 girls soccer team.
Now, the story of the North Carolina Fusion. Our state's team are the only Americans headed to Europe for an international tournament. Coach Wade Forte, said "It was just one of those once in a lifetime kind of things." We caught up with one of the team's members, Summerfield eighth grader Hudson Reid, as he and his team prepare for their big tournament!
Reid said he's excited for the chance to play international teams, and that he hopes they play as aggressively as he likes to play. He also said he wouldn't turn down the chance to spend more time in Italy. "Me and my dad were playing around with mom one time saying if, like, an Italy team asks me to stay, we would just email her we're staying and we're not coming back," Reid said.
And how's this for good genes, Reid's grandfather Bertrand Grell played professional soccer as well. Grell actually played in a game against Pele back in the day! As for the team's trip, they'll visit Venice, Verona, and several other historical sites while on their trip.
