(Bolivia, NC) -- A former North Carolina police chief and his son have been indicted by the Brunswick County grand jury.
Former Boiling Springs Lakes Police Chief Emmett Ballree and Michael Ballree were indicted earlier this week on two charges.
Emmett Ballree is charged with aiding and abetting the possession of a gun by a felon. Michael Ballree is charged with possession of a gun by a felon.
Officials in Boiling Springs Lakes say Emmett Ballree was fired last month after he ordered an on-duty police officer to drive Michael Ballree to work.
The indictments come following a two-month investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Boiling Spring Lakes is just southwest of Wilmington.
It was not clear if the men have attorneys.
