Burlington, NC -- An update on a story WFMY News 2 first reported last week.

On September 2, Megan Riggans, 21, died after giving birth to a baby boy. Riggans died from injuries she received in a crash while on the way to the hospital.

Monday, the family spoke with WFMY and said that baby Will Riggans was fighting and holding on.

Wednesday, a close family friend contacted WFMY and said baby Will was taken off life support.

Casey and Megan Riggans were driving to the hospital while Megan was in labor when their car went off the road and collided with a tree. Megan died in the wreck, but not before emergency crews delivered her son, Will, who was put on life support.

After being removed from life support, the family said baby Riggans' organs were harvested to help others.
